Is there a way to make a standard tomcat JDBC realm case-insensitive? My users are getting confused (suprise!) when 'Dennis' does not equate to 'dennis'.

Thanks for any pointers, I'm even open to 3rd party realms configurations, I am thinking that stock realms won't do this but its worth a check!

You know the answer is "no" !

Of course, you could map both realms, but that might be a bit daft !

Actually reading my post it was a bit unclear.

I want the USERNAMES to be case insensitive, the realm itself is whatever and who cares.

The users are the ones getting confused on their own user names.

Same answer I think though :)

You mean the usernames against the database itself ?

Correct, I have used realm implementations in other languages that let you specify the case-sensitivity or actually define the SQL query itself.

I don't see that option in the standard tomcat realm
