hi folks! i have bought a nice little midi case; second user, knowing that i need to buy and fit a top-mounted case fan. problem is that i do not know the dimensions of the case fan i need!! an 80mm fan is too small; at which point i realised that i don't know how these fans are measured. shortest dist. between holes is ~82mm, diag dist. is ~116mm and the cut-out is 87mm. any pointers please?

What does the manual say the size of the fan should be? The common sizes are 80, 92 and 120

hi franklin, no manual. i am really asking what the accepted method of measuring case fans is, before i go buy one (complete with grill)
thanks

Why don't you trace the hole for the fan w/ a piece of paper?
I would suggest also poking or marking the screw holes. You can then take the paper into your local shop.

Just a thought!

Fan size is the length of one side of the fan, the outside dimension. Just measured a 92mm fan and the mounting holes are about 82mm on center.

From your description it sounds like you need a 92mm case fan.

thanx guys for the input, have just measured an 80mm fan and found the "80" to be the frame size..wasn't looking for that (duh!)...jiminks is right on..92 it is
thanx again all
