Does the 'return' cascade cable of the ST1 cascade module make a performance difference or is it there only for redundancy?

I only have the one cable right now between 2 switches, and it seems to work OK, but I have no way to evaluate the performance of the cascade link (that I know of).

Thanks
Si.

HAving two cables completes a ring topology in the stack, and having one gives you a broken ring. I suspect that this is no problem if there are only two units in the stack, but there may be performance implications if the stack is bigger.

Also, in a stack with three or more units, having no return cable couls cause a faulty cascade card or switch to bring down other members of the stack, depending on which unit(s) have the uplink interface.

Both cascade cards should have come with a cable, so I would just put it on...since that's the way it is designed to work. If the distance is too great, I do not think that cascade return cables (just longer cascade cables) are that expensive.
