hello guys,

Need help!!

I need to cascade 2 extreme switch using Fiber Channel.

I have configured new extreme switch already. when using UTP crosscable to old switch, new switch is pingable.

When using GBIC there is no link light on Gigabit fiber port, new switch not pingable.

scenario 1:
new switch [49] ----> old switch [50] <and vice versa> = no link light; not pingable

scenario 2:
new switch [49R] ----> old switch [50R] <and vice versa>= no link light; not pingable

scenario 3:
new switch [49] ----> new switch [50] <and vice versa> = no link light.

scenario 4:

new switch [49R] ----> new switch [50R] <and vice versa> = no link light.

==================

As far as I know this is plug n play. im still having a problem and I need your help to resolve this problem of mine.

Thanks in advance.

This is most likely a physical issue, just patch port 49 to 49R. confirm that the cables are crossed over and confirm the ports are set to auto on. If you still don't get link, confirm that you're getting light out of the GBICs and the fiber, don't look directly into the light. It's easier to see it if the room is dark.

thanks rn4it. it seems that the hardware is defective. ill try some workaround.. thanks again
