I just wanted to get some thoughts on RAM. Would it be better to buy 128 MB of CAS2 RAM or 256 MB of CAS3 RAM? They are both at about the same price right now. The system it would be used on would be for gaming and some pretty hefty SQL-Server apps.

Thanks for your input.

CAS 2 Latency is faster, CAS 3 is slower.

also if you already have some rams, its best to keep the same latency speed, since the BIOS can only set it at one speed, if you set it to 2, and the rest are of 3, then you might burn out your 3s and so forth, so it's best to have all the same speeds.

(CAS Latency is also known as Cycles)

Say it's a new system. Is the extra 128 mb of RAM of the 256 mb CAS3 enough to overcome the latency issue?

PC133 or PC100?

all I am saying is that if you already have rams, it's best to get the ones that match your current latency, the speed difference is usally marginal unless you're into heavy gamming or professional work.

What would you choose, 256 mb CAS3 or 128 mb CAS2? Both of these are PC133.

both are PC133, lets put this senario in.

lets say I already have a PC and it has 128Meg PC133 Cas3 , I would buy the Cas3 256Megs since it matches my current rams. otherwise I would use the 128 since it keeps the same speed as my current.

also 128 vs 256, upgrading from 128 to 256 is only a 7% increase in performance for games, the benefit really flies when normal bussiness applications and multitasking comes into consideration, if you dont care about small marginal speed, get the 256 CAS3 , and make sure your BIOS is set to Cas3 , that way you have more memory for about the same price.

Thanks Karl. I appreciate your input.
