CAS array + mailbox database failed to separate server/site

If the CAS array was still available in a site, but the mailbox database for a user in that site then fails over to a separate mailbox server in a different site would it be the expectation that the CAS array wont be able to serve up MAPI traffic for a user in the site with the CAS array but not the database?

If this is true is there a way to force it to proxy these requests? The above example happened to me while applying a rollup so I am just looking for clarification. Thanks

figured I would followup, oddly enough this was enhanced with RU3 and answered my question above.
