Cartoon shading?

Other than manually shading I can only think of 3D, but then you would have to build the cartoon anyway before applying lighting.
 
I would definitely like to find that tutorial if you could find it. On simple things (boxes, squares, etc.) I've gotten decent results. With more complex shapes though, I'm not so hot. Problem is, I'm no illustrator. I like doodling, and after spending $500 on CS2, I figured I should strive for great results. :)

I'll play w/ Live Paint a little. Thanks for the tip.
 
Maybe the best thing would be to look for tutorials on drawing (with pencil, ink, etc.) and dealing with light and shadows. The principles are the same, only the tools that are different.
 
I will do that... just haven't gotten around to it. It's a lot to digest at once. :)
