Carrige error

Hello group I'm having issues with a HP officeject d135 all-in-one printer.

I get the following error on the front panel display
The top line reads Carriage Error.
The bottom line(with scrolling text) reads Open Door, latch carriage close door and then press Enter.

The problem is I really don't understand the term latch carriage. Also the printer carriage stays at the home position the far right of the printer. Even if cycle power or open the door, the carriage never moves from the home position.

I've tried numerous troubleshooting guides on the web and I still don't have a resolution for this. One resource recommended that I carry the printer to a service center. I really want to fix this issue with out have to pay to get this resolved.

Any help or advice will be appericated.

Unfortunately, I have bad news. We have seen several of these all-in-one printers that all have the same problem. There are two gears that run the service station under the carriage that tend to break, and are no longer available from HP. The problem is due to the excess ink that drains down from the print cartridges, which builds up and causes these gears to break. I have seen forums with threads as long as your arm cussing and discussing this. If you want, check out

and look for either a V40 of Officejet 5110 and you'll see what I'm talking about. People have come up with solutions to fix this, but they are Jerry-rigged and I would not do that for a customer.
