I'm stuck with a problem: When I open the Manager and select eihter job, it will ask for my CAROOT password. However, it says this is not correct. I try to connect using Domain-Admin account (or any other account) but this fails too. Seem to remember that the errorcode was EC1 or so (i'm not on the site any more).

Any advice any one?
Cheers

Hi,

please check the ARCserve Services, the BrightStor Domainservice must be up and runing to proof the caroot user

Yes, all services are running.

Upon conntecting the following error message is being displayed (just got it): [tt]Server XYZ failed to authenticate the user caroot (EC=-1). Please check the troubleshooting tips for authentication to correct.[/tt]

Using "ca_auth.exe" to list every user, the result is that no user is listed....

Where are my users gone, and how on earth can i solve this problem?

Another interessting issue is, my defined job, is still being executed. The only problem is, i would not be able to do a restore without reinstalling ARCserve.

IMHO that's not the way it should work... [wink]

Hi,

To reset the caroot password type the following from the arcserve folder -

authsetup /p "[password]" where [password] is what you want the new password to be.

You must be logged on with local administrative rights to perform this operation.

I also ran into this problem. When I ran the command to reset the password, it times out. Here is what I get ...

------------------------------------------------------
C:\Program Files\CA\BrightStor ARCserve Backup>authsetup /p ""
Command : C:\Program Files\CA\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\ca_auth.exe -equiv add
"Administrator" "exchange5" caroot caroot ""
Exit code is 235
Command : C:\Program Files\CA\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\ca_auth.exe -equiv add
"ExchBackup1" "exchange5" caroot caroot ""
Exit code is 234
Command : C:\Program Files\CA\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\ca_auth.exe -user chgpa
sswd caroot ""
Exit code is 235
Command : C:\Program Files\CA\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\ca_auth.exe -group add
"BrightStorEB Administrator Group"

------------------------------------------------------
At this point, I get the following error:

AuthSetup :Timeout for C:\Program Files\CA\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\ca_auth.exe -group add
"BrightStorEB Administrator Group"

When I press OK it continues and also continues to timeout.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Eric

I found the solution:

From a command line, type the following command:

ca_auth.exe -user chgpasswd caroot

You will be prompted to enter the old password. I entered the password that worked up until last night and it accepted it. Then you will be prompted to enter the new password.

Everything is working fine now.

What if someone else setup the caroot password and didn't tell you before they left.
I have tried both the authsetup and ca_auth passwd change options and get now where.

I have also tried using the bsconfig option and still get nowhere.
