I am currently a sophomore in High School and I am interested in securing networks, tracking down and finding hackers and other people who use the internet to abuse it and other people.

I am not sure exactly what field I should be looking for, I have been looking for weeks but no idea still. Also, no idea what college to go to for this type of work. Probably can't find one because I don't even know the name of the field..

Anyways, please, I need help I am stuck.

Thanks for reading this,
Nick

The field in college would be Computer Science. Most large schools have a BS program in Computer Sciences. You then get to focus on a specific part of the IT field. Network Security is probably the field that you are looking for.

Check with your local JC or four year university to see what's offered. Your high school councler can probably help with this search (those folks are there to help after all, you probably will have to give them some specific info since they probably don't know much about it).

I tried to get some help from them, they have no idea and say they will help but they never call me backup or even look

You might get some helpful advice from the newsgroups at (news.grc.com in your newsreader). There are a lot of folks over that way who specialise in the IS security field so they may well be able to point you in the right direction.

Check this out:
Yes the programs are more government oriented, and DHS is a little scary, but I'm currently working on my Masters in this program and thus far its really good and is probably what you're looking for.

Since you will be heading for your undergrad in a few years the Centers of Academic Excellence allow you to attend a community college/JC then transfer the credits over to a 4 year university. Or you can enter the program at a 4 year uni in CIS or Comp Sci and then spend the last 4 years concentrating in IA field.

Thanks so much for the help guys! This is all of what I have been looking for! I really appreciate it!
