Does anyone know if one needs to be very artistic to become a flash developer? I know that it does help, but what if one is very good in the technical skills area, but doesn't have one once of artistic talent. Just wondering.

I don't think artistic talent is absolutely necessary to become a flash developer, although I'm sure it helps. In my opinion, as long as you're at least somewhat creative, you'll do fine.

It depends what sort of development you're doing. In my opinion, yes, the majority of flash design does require some artistic flair. You can be as handy as you like in actionscript, but it's not much good if the artwork is terrible.

I used to do a fair bit of flash work about 10 years ago, but my artistic skills were so lacking, I could never consider taking it as a career.

Thanks for your replies. Since I don't have any artistic ability, maybe I shouldn't go down this path.

Well you can always dip your feet in the water, as you do other things. It might well take off.

If you think you'd enjoy it, it can't hurt to try!

Find your counter part. Team up with a really great graphics person that doesn't know squat about programming. (There are PLENTY of them out there!) Work together on projects, learn from each other. It could very well be that a graphics shop is looking for someone with more technical skills and not so much artistic talent.

Hope This Helps!
