We found today that all the lines on our 17th punch down row were non functional. After opening our wall mount unit I found that the card where that row terminates is showing a red light.

I've moved all the lines to other functional areas.

Are there any troubleshooting procedures for a card like that? Is it OK to "hot-swap" those cards? Can I unplug and plug it back in to see if it resolves its issues? The card is labeled an analog card (the lines on it were all fax lines), anyone know a good source for these parts?

(I am just an IT systems admin. My knowledge of these units is very limited.)

back it out, put it back, should flash 3 times then go green, not if you moved everything, will be solid red until you build on it. if we are talking about a Nortel analog line card. can hot swap. should be able get one for between 50-80 bucks.

What are the midnights telling you? Are you getting a bunch of NWS messages (you can also look back at history in LD 22 -> PRT -> AHST, or alarms in LD 117 -> PRT SEL 500).

You can try doing an DISC and an ENLC of the card (sounds like you have an Option 11c and the card is in the 2nd cabinet, slot 7) - so in this case you would go into LD 20 and do DISC 17, back the card out of the slot, put it back, and do an ENLC 17. You'll need to move something back onto that card for it the red light to come off. If after moving it the red light remains on - then you got a bad card. The maintenance terminal will throw some XMI error messages through this process. XMI002 message after putting the card back is a good sign.

These cards are hot swap... hopefully you should always have a spare card or two on-hand for analog and digital. Otherwise, you did the right thing by moving everything to different TN's and swinging cross connects from the bad card to the new one. Time consuming, but it gets the job done. Faster to swap out with a known working spare card though.

NT8D02 and NT8D09 line cards don't go green. They're either dark (no news is good news) or red (uh-oh).
