2 questions that are kind of related

1 - on a legend r5 with 6 mlx408 cards, 1 mlm007, 1 012 t/r and 1 400 card - is there a set order that cards need to go in carriers to function properly, any toughts about this subject in general would be appreciated

also - customers have random extensions in the 200-259 range but only 45 or so sets - any gotchas to watch for in renumbering extensions? will voice mail ports be renumbered also - thanks!

There really is no set order that mods must be installed, but I would want to put all the 408MLX mods first, then the 012, 400 and 007 could go in any order. I am assuming the 400 card is one with extra TT receivers, and the 012 also has extra receivers so I would have them in the expansion carrier with the voicemail. The order of mods is usually an issue only when you must spread them out due to power supply concerns, but this does not seem to be an issue in your case.

As for renumbering, are you talking about renumbering the entire system, or just certain extensions? Renumbering an entire system is always a concern as it can affect line/pool assignments, group assignments, call coverage, etc., which could certainly throw voicemail operation into chaos.

If all is working fine now I would just leave it be, but be sure to keep accurate programming records and by all means back up programming to your backup card, and also to a floppy disk if you have WinSPM available. Brian Cox

The system is already numbered in the 200-299 range and I am only looking to renumber certain extensions, I guess my real question is if there are conflicts renumbering port - 03 to 206,when there is already a 206 assinged to port 07, how is this addressed? Thanks

I think the system will swap the numbering assigned to the jacks if you renumber to a station already in use. In other words if you renumber 201 to 206, and 206 is already in use, then 206 is renumbered to 201. If this is not right then I'm sure someone out there will correct me. I just scoured the manuals and it does not mention what happens in this scenario. It just shows how to renumber stations and/or systems. Brian Cox

You need to do a three-step renumber. In your example of swapping 201 and 206, you would renumber 201 to "something else", renumber 206 to 201, then take that "something else" and renumber it to 206.

What is the "something else" number? For me, it is whatever the port was originally numbered in "set-up-space", that is in the 7100 range.

Either find out what the logical ID of the extension is, and add 7099 to get its original set-up-space extension number, or go to your planning forms (you're keeping them up to date, right?), and you will see it right next to where you pencil in the current extension number.

ok - i should be ok with extensions but do i need to renumber voice mail ports also - for example - the voice mail is in the 5th slot of first cabinet - by default that is 232-235 - when i make 208 or whatever got to 235 then i assume i should renumber 235 to something else - do i follow the same guidelines witht the vm ports?

If I have deduced correctly that you have 408MLX cards in slots 1 through 4, and the 007MLM in slot 5, and your numbering starting at 200 for Logical ID #01, here's what you need to do:

The system sees the 007MLM as if it were an 012 T/R card (that is, it sees 12 ports.

That makes Logical ID #33 through #44.

In Set-Up Space, those ports would have been Extension Numbers 7132 through 7143.

So, renumber 232 to 7132, 233 to 7133, 234 to 7134, and so on.

Before you do this, go to Print -> More -> Ext. Report, and look at the Extension Listing. It will show Slot/Port and Extension Number for all cards in the system. Look for Slot/Port 05/01, that is your first Voice Mail port. See what its extension number is now. Check all the extension numbers from 05/01 through 05/12, so you know for sure what they are starting from, so you can put them back into set-up space.

There should be no other issues after you renumber them, they will stay in the Voice Mail Calling Group, but with their new numbers.

Good Luck!
