But back in the heyday of Legends--and long before Magix--was a popular "remote control" software made by Alteris called Carbon Copy. There was Lynx, FastLynx, Carbon Copy and PC Anywhere. They were all in competition to get you the ability to remotely control another computer via dialup (and IP much later).
I suspect that these floppy discs were bundled with the Legend for a brief time. The purpose was probably the same: use remote control software to control your work PC, which in turn is connected to the Legend. For all the complaints about modems freaking out, remote control is actually a very good way to access the switch. A "modern" way to do this might be like what
In one of these threads, the idea of using Socket Magix software over a reverse telnet session to a router was discussed. It's cool, but a little more Rube Golberg-ish than the remote control angle. But then again, I'm famous for complicating things.
I have never heard of this, but I have my suspicions.
At one time you could interface with the PROCESSOR of a MERLIN II, if you had the right MODEM and the RIGHT Software.
However, all we used to use was a HAYES MODEM (Emulating Bell Modem Standards, of course), and something like PROCOMM PLUS or something similar.
I know that AT&T & Lucent used to sell a REMOTE ACCESS product based on the above to Campuses and the like.
I also know that the HOTLINE didn't really support it, the support came directly from Bell Labs.
There were probably only 3 or 4 clients that used it, if that many.
It was a command line interface like a System 25.
We (The hotline & us Engineers that supported them) wanted no part of it, if for no other reason than LEGEND had come out and SPM (Quite User friendly compared to the MERLIN II Stuff) was kicking us hard enough.
And, after all, the MERLIN II was OBSOLETE.
I don't think I am going to bid on this.
Maybe I should to keep from answering any more questions about it.
