Hi, does anyone know of some free or cheap software that will allow me to take a still frame from a dvd and import it into photoshop? I tried playing the dvd, then pause and right click on the image, but no menu pops up. It is a dvd produced by my company, so there's no copyright problem, etc.
Any advice?
Thanks
B

If you are on a PC you could try pausing on the frame and then press your PRINT SCRN key at the top of your keyboard, then past into Photoshop.

I don’t know if there is software to export from DVD, but one way you could accomplish your goal would be to do a screen capture….
While you are watching the DVD on your computer, you could pause it, and press the print screen key on your keyboard. Once you do that the screen should be copied to your clipboard… Open a new Photoshop file, and paste. Edit as needed.

The quality may only work for screen work, since the typical screen capture is 72 DPI (at least in my experience.)

Sorry pixelchick- did not mean to step on your post.
I took to long to write.

OK, thank you both; that's good advice, but what I want is to capture this image to be used for print; ie- use it as the cover for this dvd, so I think I'd need at least 300 dpi. Don't think I can change the settings of the 'print screen' to capture at a higher resolution, so what else can you all suggest?
Seems there should be some easy solution but I can't put my finger on it.

You are not going to get a 300 dpi image from a single frame of mpeg video even if you could get the source into a video editing software timeline. MPEG DVD files are compressed. You could try a screen capture software for a possibly better quality image.

Considering the size of a DVD box, you may still be able to make it work. You can definitely increase the DPI either in Photoshop or through the various plug-ins designed specifically for the purpose of increasing DPI (like genuine fractals at )

Otherwise- perhaps somebody else knows of a specific program suited to your purpose.

Got it. Thanks everyone. I think we'll have to use a different picture, but it was worth a try to see if I would have been able to use something from the film. Too bad!

Thanks bbrike; I'm going to try that and see if it'll work!
