The caption buttons show the wrong font. For example: when you close a window, you expect to click on the "X" in the top right corner. This machine shows an "R". Also, all buttons are messed up with unreadable letters. What causes this and more importantly, what can be done to fix this short of reformating the hard drive and reinstalling W98.

Your help would be greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance.

The Marlett TrueType font is used for displaying scroll bar arrows, Maximize and Minimize buttons, option buttons, check boxes, and other controls in Windows. The font is explicitly loaded by the GDI at startup.

Description of and Troubleshooting the Marlett TrueType Font

Users of other operating systems can use System File Checker (sfc.exe) or msconfig to replace the corrupt font if they wish.
