Cap bandwidth

Hi everyone,

I've got a Cisco 1841 Router and with a new IP line being connected tomorrow, replacing the old service provider.

The new service provider has bandwidth bursting enabled, I've asked them to give us the 4MB line we need with a CIDR of /28 but they are now telling me they cannot cap it at 4MB and will have brsting enabled for good. I would need to cap the bursting myself.

How do I cap the bandwisth at 4MB on my side of the line and can it be done with a Cisco 1841 Router?

Please currect me if I am wrong anywhere.
I've done furture investigation and found what I need to setup is "Quality of Service (Traffic Management)". I'm reading it up on the Cisco site but stuggling to find howto configure etc.. Am I here on the right path?

The other option would be I guess the Cisco bandwidth command but they are not the same?

The bandwidth command will indeed cap it to whatever bw you enter. QoS/rate limiting is the other option, giving you more control over protocols, source IP, etc. Policy maps is the answer, but if a simple cap is all you need, then the bandwidth command should suffice.
