Is there any "system" setting that can prevent writing to /opt?

I created a directory /opt/test. Perms are 755, owner root.
We have an application that is run by root and needs to write to that directory but can't. /opt is a separate filesystem but is not mounted as read only.

Any ideas?

Our Solaris 8 systems don't have separate filesystems for /opt and have permissions 775 root:sys .

Can you create a file in /opt/test ?

You say "We have an application that is run by root..." but is it run as root ? (Only root can write to that directory).

I hope that helps.

Have you tried an fsck on /opt?

I want to be good, is that not enough?

Run as root, see if you can touch a file, and create a file.

If you can't, then I would suspect that maybe the extended ACL set might be turned on, do a man getfacl, setfacl.

(Sorry, I don't have a solaris system handy).
