Help.

I am a consultant that works with several hospitals one uses Nortel VPN, two others use Cisco.

I had the Nortel VPN software version 4.1 installed first.

When I installed the CISCO software version 3 something, (sorry I don't have the cd here and the software does not say what version it is, Who writes this stuff anyway?), It forced me to uninstall the Nortel software.

Needless to say I can no longer connect to my Nortel client.

When I tried reinstalling the Nortel software with the Cisco software installed, it installed ok, but I get a BSOD (Blue screen of death) as soon as I start it.

I should mention I am running windows XP.

The BSOD seems to be caused by ipsecw2k.sys.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

In care anyone is interested.

The only solution I could find was to set up my laptop as a dual boot.

Also, not only will the Cisco software not work with the Nortel software installed, it will not work on any system where the Nortel software has ever been installed even if it has been uninstalled.

What idiots write this stuff anyway?

It is the classic arrogant attitude of:

'Why would you run any software but ours on your computer?"

Have you tried using Windows as your IPSec client rather than the proprietary (read - annoying) software from Cisco & Nortel?

There is a link in one of the threads here (under VPN or Netscreen or PIX) which details how to set up vanilla windows to be a VPN client using IPSec.

No, but I have trouble believing it will work since both Cisco and Nortel use totally different security schemes. But what the heck, I'll have a look. Thanks.

Tried it before, there is an issue having both clients on The same partition.

I ended configuring dual boot.
