Hi. I am having trouble figuring out which ports to open so that I can vpn in to my windows2000 server at work. I am using a linksys router and the only way I can get it to work is if I set the server as the DMZ.

Please help. I don't know which ports to open (tcp or udp?) Thanks.

Rob

TCP port 1723 and make sure IPSec or PPTP pass-thru are enabled... Thanks,

Go to linksys.com and look up :

Thanks, but the linksys site has the instructions in a gif file that I cannot view for some reason. It states to put those ports in the port triggering screen, but I cannot see how they have all of the fields completed. Do I need to also forward the ports?

Is the Linksys at your Home? If it is at your work you will probably not be able to do this. I had a Linksys at the office with port 1723 forwarding to the VPN server. But, Linksys does not support routing GRE packets. If it is at home, and you are trying to connect to work, you simply need to enable teh VPN (IPSec or PPTP) pass-thru...
Good Luck! Thanks,

I have one at my home and one at work. befsr41 on both ends.

I would try a different router at the office... I know Speedstream, Cayman, and Netopia are reasonably priced routers that will support forwarding of GRE packets... Thanks,

Matt Wray
