Help!!! Using Win2003 Srvr. Created a test website on my test webserver. (test webserver is called WEBSERVER)

When I go to workstation and try and browse my test website (using IE6) I get page not found.

Am typing in I have a default.htm file inside my content folder so I should expect to see at least that, no?

But where it gets interesting is, if I type in the ip address of my virtual server, I see my default.htm page just fine. Just can't use http://

thanks....

could be two things. If you are getting page not found for the default website then why are you putting in
the way you have done it makes IIS think it is looking for a nother directory called test off the root of the default website. you may want to try
Now if it was working with ip address/test then your server is not being registered correctly to be found by server name.

hope this helps..

Chris,

You're quickly evolving into my own personal helpdesk. I believe you've helped me out several times before and I sure do appreciate it.

I think I may have stumbled on the solution myself but I think your response has helped me to confirm it.

It seems that where I'm going wrong is, I'm creating my content folder off the root of the webserver's C:\ instead of inside the inetpub\ folder and am still expecting to be able to browse my test website by typing
That ain't working. If, however, I put my content folder inside then it works. This just seems to run counter (probably just becuase I'm an IIS rookie) to what I would expect.

If I have statically assigned an IP address to my webserver (192.168.100.200) then added a second IP address to that same adapter (192.168.100.201) then created my new website and linked it to 201, it leaves me thinking that typing in should take me to the default.htm page stored in contentfolder.

if you are creating it off somewhere else then you need to specify the path in the default website properties and it should all work then..

I am glad I can be of some help for you. My email for further information is clssr1@earthlink.net (home email)
