I installed Windows 2K with IIS and all the add-ons. When trying to view ASP pages with IE5.5, I type in my machine name and then the appropriate asp filename, but nothing is displayed. The error message i get is "cannot find server".
I went to the IIS and right-clicked on "Default Web Site" and then clicked "Start". After about 20-30 seconds I get a message saying "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".
I am still left with the problem of not being able to see any pages. Can anyone help me?
Thanks.

IIS may be clashing with a firewall you might have installed on your machine. I had problems with ZoneAlarm, myself, on my home machine when I got win2k. I had to upgrade to the pro edition so that I had more configurable options (such as trusted networks, etc...)

At any rate, you might just go into your services, and set:
SMTP
FTP Publishing
IIS Admin

services to be "manual" start. Then reboot your machine. Once everything's up and running, go in and start:
IIS Admin

and see if they will successfully start.

All the while, you may need to turn off any firewall or virus protection software you have running on the machine in order to get things running.

good luck! :)
