I can not send or receive email with either Outlook 2002 or Outlook Express. I get a error message that says "can not connect to POP3 email server". I can access email via websites (mail2web, or verizon's website) but not through either client. I've checked all of the server settting, authentication setting, and MTU settings (1492). I'm runnings win XP home. I've also tried pinging the incoming.verizon.net server. It found it with no problem. But when I tried telnet on port 110, connection failed. What gives?!!

The Verizon mail servers expect that you can do IGMP protocol recognition and acknowledgement. Most firewall products block IGMP, and certainly do not permit IGMP Type 2 traffic.

Remove, modify or in some way accept IGMP traffic and registration.

Make a deliberate entry into your firewall software for the Traffic and site; just disabling the firewall is often not sufficient. If you use Outlook or OE, make an entry as well for the traffic as a "Secured Site" under the Security tab, and use https rather than http as the prefix for the entry.

I am not using any firewall software at this time.

I turned off Norton Anti-virus (scan incoming email) and IT WORKS. Now, How do I protect againt email viruses?

Have you checked to ensure that your Norton Anti-Virus is up to date using Live Update? What version of NAV are you running?
