Can't update external file (XP)

I am getting an error message (Access 97) that reads "Can't Update. Database or Object is Read Only." while using the Transfer Text feature to transfer table text to an ASCII file for processing by another program. The database is shared over the network, and I can open it and execute other commands. The (XP Home) client has full control access to the folder where the files reside. Only the XP Home client has this problem. Other clients (NT, 98, 2000) have no such trouble. None of the files or objects nor the database itself is read-only. Anyone know why this is happening? (Network is NT domain.)
