Can't update Advanced Options (but, reghakr...)

For some reason, I am locked out of the Advanced Options of IE.
I couldn't get to display my gif files on my IE. But thanks to one of reghakr's articles I can now see them.
Problem is, I'm still unable to update the Advanced Options.
If this matters, I was running IE 5.5, then switched back to 5.0 on Win2000. the switch didn't help.
As I said, the article helped me to place a check mark on the "show pictures" check box but, I'am still unable to add or remove anything from this option.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I don't quite understand. Do you have access to the Advanced tab?

Or can't you access Tools>Internet Options at all?

Are the items greyed-out?
