I have Symantec V10.1. I ran a registry cleaner utility and it removed some of the Symantec registry entries, now the Antivirus does not work properly.

First, I ran a scan from another computer on this computers disk, no virus's found.

So I tried to do a repair install, it failed.

I tried a remove, it failed.

Actually, IT did the steps above, then quit (they had other things to do).

So I did a manual remove, it failed.

I booted from a separate disk and manually deleted all Symantec directories (in common and in program files).

I noticed what now whenever I right-click on a file I get error messages (seems right).

I did an install - is says it worked. Right-click on a file now works, services says the tasks are running.

But when I try to run the console I get "an error occurred while loading savrt32.dll". And there is nothing in the tray.

I do a repair install - it says it completes and that everything is fine.

But I still get "an error occurred while loading savrt32.dll" and no tray icon.

So I installed AVG free (I need to know I have a working antivirus).

It finds and destroys a virus called "sorry.exe".

I do another repair install, still the same.

Any ideas?
