I have sendmail 8.12.5 set up, with procmail as my local mailer on Caldera OpenLinux 3.1. I can telnet to port 25 from the local machine, but not from any other machine. To test it, I changed the sendmail port to 950, and I was able to telnet to it from anywhere, and all outgoing mail worked fine. All incoming mail from within the server works fine, however it does not receive any mail from other servers.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

With netstat command, just check whether SMTP port is listening for the incoming requests.. Alternatively, check whether ur sendmail is running with -bd option..

U need to run sendmail as background daemon in order to recieve mails from outside (provided: if u are not running sendmail behind inetd daemon)

Redhat (and other Linux distros) have started adding the following line to their sendmail.cf files...

edit /etc/mail/sendmail.mc and look for
DAEMON_OPTIONS that tell it to listen on 127.0.0.1 and comment out that line... then you must do the following:

[root@localhost /root]#m4 /etc/mail/sendmail.mc > /etc/sendmail.cf

restart sendmail and away you go...

the paths above are for RedHat, so check them for Caldera before blindly following :)
