Cant sum a column with values returned from an if statment

Hi, I'm hoping this is a simple one!

I have used the following formula to return a value of 1.

=If([Next Episode Type Desc]="Initial Review"And[no of days]<7;1;"")

The problem is, i can not seem to use the sum function to add all of the episodes which have returned a value of 1.
The sum function is greyed out on the drop down menu and if i type in a sum formula i produces and error.

Does anyone know how to overcome this problem?

You can't see the sum function because one of your return values is not a number. I would try this instead:

=If([Next Episode Type Desc]="Initial Review"And[no of days]<7;1;0)
