Cant start X windows using anything other than root

Cant start X Windows system

Using RedHat 7.1 SeaWolf

created a user account and tried to startx

ex: [username@localhost /root]$ startx

error:

Xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/xauthority
Authentication failed:Cannot start x server
perhaps you do not have console ownership?
giving up
xint: no such file or directory (errno 2):unable to connect to x server
xint: no such process (errno 3):server error

Please let me know how to start x windows with another user account

Gnome was the X session i was trying to start.

Do you own your home directory and have write permission to it?

yeah im pretty sure, I'll double check though

please give me both scenarios just in case, if i do or if i don't

The first error says that it cannot lock a file which should be located in your home directory.
If you do own your home directory, and can write to it, I don't know what else could be wrong.
