Client has been running Great Plains 6.0 on Pervasive SQL 2000i SP3 for some time now... all AOK... now they've got an XP Pro workstation, and we're trying to install the Pervasive client to it... the progress bar goes from 0 to 100% very quickly, but we don't see any other "installation configuration" screens. It just goes back to the desktop.

Here are some things we've tried:

1. Logged on as administrator
2. Copied the PVSW\Clients\Win folder to the local drive
3. Changed Local Security Policy to "Classic" from "Guest." (This was under Local Security Policy > Sharing and Security Model for Local Accounts
4. Disabled Microsoft's new Spyware
5. Disabled Norton's antivirus service
6. Tried having the user run the setup.exe himself (I was trying this remotely using a remote control tool called eBlvd.)

The workstation has 256mb of RAM, and Windows Service Packs except SP2 (think THAT will be a problem?)

One specific question comes to mind: SHOULD I be able to run P.SQL 2000i SP3 on XP? (I've seen references that say I CAN run that Pervasive CLIENT under XP.)

Am I missing something obvious, or have I hit one of those incompatible black holes?

Thanks!

Thanks Stef315... I knew I could count on you... but yes, we've turned of the XP firewall... and any other firewalls that were apparent...

Not sure if you meant that but I'll try to help. :)

When you installed the client, did you do this by browsing to the client\win folder on the server where Pervasive was installed or did you use the CD?

Also, check the NTFS permission on the local drive. Make sure the SYSTEM account is added with full access. I'm assuming the domain administrators account also has full control.

Of course I meant it.... :) (You're one of tek-tips MVPs, yes?)

We tried installing from the client\win folder AND copying it locally... neither worked. didn't try the CD, but I'll have that with me tomorrow.

Checking the NTFS permissions sounds like something new to check... I'll be checking that on Tuesday morning at about 9:00 Eastern... will let you know.

Thanks!

lol, funny. :)

No, you shouldn't need the CD. You should be able to install from the shared location on the server. I don't think I'd recommend copying the folder. Wow, it's been awhile since I messed with Pervasive! I'm sure you made sure that the users have access to the PVSW folder on the server too.

I'll let you know if I think of something else. I think most times it was the System account having full control though.

Thanks for your help so far... I'm assuming for the moment it's a permissions (or firewall or RAM) thing...

but just to double-check: SHOULD Pervasive SQL2000i SP3 client software run with XP (pre-SP2) workstations at all? (I know PSQL 2000i SP4 does)...

Thanks again for the feedback.

Well, that I'm not sure of. Is there a reason you can't install sp4 version?

Just a quick reply... I went onsite and we installed from the P.SQL2000i SP3 CD and it worked just fine... not sure what's going on with that copy on the server.

But, to answer my own question: yes, Pervasive SQL2000iSP3 seems to work ok with XP (pre-SP2... they haven't instlalled that yet).

Thanks for helping me along the way!
