I can't start a nwrecover session from a client. Host file looks ok, all aliases are listed, I get a message on nwadmin screen that the client has started browsing, but no nwrecover GUI starts on the client. The error message "nwrecover: Cannot start session with server xxxb: Authentication error".

(NT suggestion) Edit the client, click on the Remote tab, and add the client into the remote list: use the * as a wild card:
<username>@*
-or-
*@<machine>.<company>.com
-or-
<username@<machine>.<company>.com

   That may help...

       -Tad

Sorry this is so long, but I just found this forum. Make sure the HOSTS file on the client has the Legato server's fully qualified domain name (server.domain.com). I had this exact error, and this was the fix - and I have duplicated it since then.

Are you using host file on the backup server or DNS?

Is there more that one NIC card on the client and/or backup server?

From the backup server, can you ping and nslookup the client using short name, long name, and i.p address?
