I renamed a volume (NetWare 5.0) and now I can't assign any printer spools to that volume. There is no error, the volume simply doesn't show up in the pick list. I can browse and move files to and from the renamed volume. I have re-booted the server, no difference.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Did you rename the volume object in NetWare Administrator? If not, rename it or you might have to delete the old volume name and recreate the volume object. -----------------------------------------------------

Yes, I had to delete the old object and create the renamed volume as new in NWadmin. Everything looks perfect, all rights, etc. are the same as the volume where all my spools currently are.
I have noticed that every other volume on this server has an NDPS directory on it, whether there is a spool actually in it or not. The renamed volumed does not have this dir in it.
Is this an issue that DSRepair can fix?

Thanks for the response.

No, the QUEUES and NDPS directories get created the first time any printer is created on the volume.

So basically you are saying that when you go to create a new Print Queue, the new volume is not in the selection list but is there in normal NetWare Administrator view? -----------------------------------------------------

Hi,

Can you drill down to the file system throught the volume object in NetWare Adminstrator? If not, delete the volume object in NWadmin, lauch DSRepair, choose "Advanced Options" and then "Check Volume Objects and Trustees". Simply creating it in NWadmin will not associate it in NDS. Let NDS recreate the object for you.

Lou,

I can place files and directories in the renamed volume and then see them with NWAdmin, if that's what you mean by "drill down to the file system".

I renamed the volume with NSS, assuming it would create the needed associations. Do you think running DSRepair as is will work, or do I need to delete the volume first?

Thanks.

Hi,

Not the volume but the volume object. At this point I don't think that the object is properly linked to the volume itself.

DSRepair reported a -610 error, Illegal Name. I guess "PQUEUE" is a reserved string... (D'oh!) I changed the name, DSRepair registered it, all is well.

Thanks for your help.
