Can't shut off editing icons in Outlook 2007

All of a sudden, the editing icons (for Paragraph, space, etc.) started to appear in my signature and email content, as well as in the notes section when I add comments to new contacts. Thus far, I haven't been able to find how to untoggle this. Any suggestions? (For what it's worth, those icons are not transmitted in the outgoing emails.)

I've found the solution: untoggling the Paragraph icon in the tools panel eliminates the editing symbols.
