Hi
i'm running an exchange 2007 server on a small network.
today i needed to configure a workstation so that a user could pick up mail from that machine that they've never logged onto before - this usually takes about 1 minute - 2hours later i'm still trying...
The workstation runs xp, it's been on all morning and the normal user who uses this machine was in their outlook - so as far as i was concerned it was working fine. I logged on as new user, tried to create a mail profile and got error - "The Connection to Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action"
I have been getting that error message all morning. i can log back onto that workstation as the original user and go straight into outlook - works fine.
At first i thought it might be a flaky network connection and so i have tried different network cables - no difference. Then i tried different workstations - and i don't seem to be able to create any new mail profiles anywhere! i can ping the exchange server by name from any workstation, i can browse the network and see mail server and it's shared folders, I can remote desktop into the exchange server from any workstation. There's no errors in the exchange server event viewer. All users emails seems fine, mail is flowing in and out of the building. I'm not even sure if i have a big problem or a little one.
So I've got 2 machines next to each other - one of them is running the users mail absolutely fine, the other is saying that it can't connect to the mail server to resolve the mailbox name - same user. Has anyone seen this before?
