Hi all, posing a wierd and strange issue. It's a Merlin Magix R3 with a PRI from the LEC 23b and the D and a point to point pri connecting to another magix. For reference sake, I will call the magix with the PRI from the lec switch A and the magix without switch B.

When a fax comes in over the PRI in switch A and routes to a fax machine on switch A, the fax will answer and attempt to connect. The fax tried all kinds of baud rates and several attempts to establish a data stream, at the end the fax on switch A disconnects the call. This is a problem that is happening all the time ever since we added the second PRI card for the point to point......which is over fiber using media converters.

When we attempt to fax over the point to point to another fax on switch B....no problems. When a call comes in on the LEC pri on switch A and routes to the Fax on switch B, the same issue happens where there is an attempt to connect, none the less, the fax ends the call.

Tech support, who was a real confused blank blank blank.....said it had to be the LEC. I agreed until I called the LEC on the issue. After we checked all the basics, framing, suppression, signaling, protacol, he stated that he was seeing alot of slips from our end. I checked the clocking and we are looping off of them. Did the CSU loopback on the DS1 card, came back ok. No errors in the logs. Voice communication is fine. Disconnect Cause Codes on a trace came back as a normal call clear. We are swapping the 2 DS1 cards on Saturday.....anybody else have any input?
Anybody else run into this issue. Oh, as well, they have 2 dial up lines for remote access to servers that are used once or twice a year. When they tried those as well, they got a failed to connect error. Thanks in advance.

Oh, they arn't DS1 Cards, they are the DCD and the CSU's are activated.

Go back to Tech support, INSIST they put you in touch with a TIER 3 Engineer.

If you email me, I will give you the name of the one I recommend.

I will not post such stuff here.

Every peice of hardware you describe SHOULD NOT GIVE PROBLEMS in the PRI relm.

When you first talk to Tech support, you get an UP FRONT person, NOT AN ENGINEER, You need an ENGINEER, a Tier 3 Engineer.

If you have AVAYA Support (as in being a Business partner) then you can have access to this level of support.

GOOD LUCK!

I had a similiar problem with modems connecting on calling out from switch b thru point to point to pri in switch a. The clocking was set wrong in switch A under primary and secondary. All other calls from other phones were OK but the modems wouldn't connect even though you could hear the modem tones if you monitored the analog port.
