Hi there,

I have a small problem in that i cannot seem to sent mail to anywhere if sent from the server. It's running bsd 4.4, sendmail 8.9, poppper, and smtpd 2.0.

When i send mail from my workstations (windows) it gets delivered, but when sending (with 'mail' or by script, or using 'sendmail') the mail log reads -

Stat=Data format error
any idears?

You may have solved the problem already since this post is a week old but I'm going to take a shot in the dark here. I'm taking for granted that your workstation's e-mail clients all have yourdomain.com in the 'From:' field. When you use mail or sendmail from script, it puts the machines network name or localhost in that field. This is a dumb question but do you have your machine name as well as localhost.localdomain in your access file? This file tells sendmail all the domains that can relay mail through your server. I would use the following:

127.0.0.1 / internal machine IP
94.0.0.1 / intranet IP address
123.45.67.89 / internet IP address
machinename
localhost
localhost.localdomain
yourdomain.com

In most cases these are not needed because sendmail defaults to the local machine name but some folks have some very unorthodox network configurations.
