Hello Guys,

Im farely new to Domino administration and Im having problem configuring our Domino server to sent email to the Internet.

I have configured/created the necessary documents (as stated in the yellow book)and what happens is that we only receive emails and not be able to sent any.

When sending an email to the Internet, we get this error message:

ERROR 550 Invalid Mailbox: Bad Return-Path Syntax

Can anybody out there explain to me what this error message means?

Were currently running R5.0 and the Domino server is behind the firewall.

Thanks!!

Got this from a Lotus Technote Document #: 174702

Outbound Messages Failing with "Error 550 Invalid Mailbox: Bad Return-path Syntax"

Problem:

Some outbound messages are failing with the following error:

"Error 550 Invalid Mailbox: Bad Return-path Syntax."

The status in the delivery failure report is 5.0.0.

Solution:

If the sender's address is being converted to include a percent symbol ( % ), some receiving SMTP implementations will not be able to accept the message. The receiving SMTP will return the 550 error. Changing the format of the Internet address (either in the Configurations document or the Person document) should resolve the issue.
