We switched ISP's a few weeks ago and since then we've been having problems sending emails to like 2 or 3 domains. We are getting back the following message. I ran tests on dnsreport.com and our new isp says, we look good there but could be our local dsn server? We can send to like 99% of domains ok but it seems like only a couple that we have an issue yet we can receive from them ok. Here is the message:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: Test

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

'tlt@vwg.com' on 10/19/2006 11:50 AM
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your system administrator.
<exchange.gntrad.local #5.5.0 smtp;550 <tlt@vwg.com>: Recipient address rejected: No such account>

Also, this is what shows in the logfiles on our exchange server:

Hi Joe,

A few things - the log message appears to show a successful send but fails on the line:

2006-10-25 12:23:27 207.155.253.193 OutboundConnectionResponse SMTPSVC1 EXCHANGE - 25 - - 550+<joe@vwg.com>:+Recipient+address+rejected:+No+such+account 0 0 62 0 469 SMTP

Seems to suggest that the mail account at the other end has either been disabled or deleted. Try sending a mail to postmaster@awg.com to see if that gets through.

Can you ping the recipients mail server, in this case mail.vwg.com ? You should get a resolution even though you may get time outs because of ICMP packet blocking.

If you don't get a resolution then its a dns issue. If you do get a resolution, try a pathping to the same address and see where it's falling over.

Also, you don't say who your new ISP is, but it might be worth checking out if they appear on **any** open relay lists.

We had a similar problem when changing ISPs and eventually traced it to an an entry for the new ISPs mail relay on an ORDB list (unjustified I might add). Consequently, some mails where being blocked by anti spam filters at a limited number of target sites.

Hope this helps

We can ping to the point where it resolves the ip address. I did the pathping and it looks good, no errors or anything but not sure what I'm looking for?

Tried sending to postmaster@vwg.com and same thing. I can send to them from my Yahoo account so I know it's valid address.

Our new isp is XO.com. I'm checking to see it they are on any lists but haven't seen anything yet.

Thanks, Joe

Hi Joe,

Seems like you've go the bases covered. A last thought..

Can you get the failing recipient to mail you, then send a reply ?? Sometimes mail server anti spam filters will blacklist some senders, but do an auto whitelist entry for sent mail.

Failing this, send a mail with all the delivery notifications you can use to see where it's stopping.

Regards

MD

Hi,

Go to dnsstuff.com and enter your mail servers (and any other)public ip address in the "Spam Database Lookup" field. It may be your new ISP is listed on a couple of blacklists that *.vwg.com subscribes to

Hope this helps

I posted this to a later asked question, but I think it relates to your problem

You need a DNS reverse ptr record that mathces your banner name on exchange.

To find out the exact banner name, do a telnet into the mail server on port 25 and look at the display banner (open command prompt, type cmd. type 'telnet mail.myserver.com 25'. You will see your banner name at the top (typically your mail server)

To set the reverse pointer record, contact your ISP. If it is a residential ISP, you are going to have a lot of trouble getting them to change it.
