Of course the exact directories I need to back up daily appear to be grayed-out and "unselectable" when I try to choose them for backing up. I can't find any mention of this in the help topics. I'm using v8.5 on a W2000 server and backing up directories on NT. I can go directly to the directories through explorer and right-click to choose back-up, but it runs for about an hour and then fails. Thanks in advance!

Try Tools, Options, Network tab. Turn "User Selections" on. (Providing, of course, this is the same as 8.6)

In my experience, the only time that I've seen a (remote) server or workstation grayed out is when a copy of BackupExec is installed on that machine. I guess an assumption is made that one doesn't have a need to backup a system that already has the capability to perform its own backup... ________

I am having this problem as well and I cannot for the life of me figure it out. This seems to only be happening on the 2000 server I am running. NT servers are still letting me select everything I want to back up. It is definitely not a permissions issue as I am using the same login/password as I always have. Has anyone figured this one out yet? Does anyone know if this software even works on 2000?

Plese help if possible.

If you are backing up remote NT/2000 server, Don't you need remote agent for NT/2000? You don't need any agent for 98 client but for NT/2000, I think you need agent. (I might be wrong......)
