Hi All..

I have win2k server as Domain Controller. One other XP pro connected as a member of the domain and another XP pro just as a workgroup. I have DNS server running on the DC and I have assigned IPs to each of the computers. I cannot ping the workgroup computer. Is it because it's not part of the domain? I know before I could see it until the computer was changed. The printer is attached to that computer and I want to share it on the network without making it part of the domain.

Thanks in advance.

Are they both on the same subnet? If you could list the IP info for each that might help.

Not being a member of the domain does not prohibit pings to anything. Pings are not M$ aware. Disable the Security Center Service on the XP machine that's not a member of the domain and try to ping it again. Make sure the personal firewall on that machine is disabled first as well. Post back if you notice any difference.

XP w/Service Pack 2 has the Security Center enabled by default, so I would start there first.

and as Zych said, make sure they're on the same subnet/network first. Check their IP's. Obviously if they're not, then you know the problem right away.
