I am new to Windows 2003 Server. I just load up a windows 2003 server standard R2. From the server I can see the other networks in my office. But whe I try to find the new server from my desktop (xpro), I can't see the the new server. What did I do wrong? Any suggestions? Thanks

Check the following;

- Is the Windows firewall enabled on your new server
- Is it in the same Workgroup/Domain as the other hosts on your network

The firewall is disabled.
I don't use domain and there is no workgroup specify in the server.

What is your DNS/DHCP setup on your worstation?
Can you ping in either direction?

1965......I was having the same exact problem as the O.P, could not see the server, and could not ping. I disabled the firewall and all is fine, well with this battle anyway. Now off to the next set of issues.
Thanks guys, and good luck to the O.P. I'm sure it's something simple. I would first try and ping the server like elmurado mentioned that will be your pivot point on where to go next

There is no DNS/DHCP set in any workstation.
I'm using netbios over TCP/IP.
Yes I can't ping in both direction.

Finally found out the problems earlier this week. We have an NT server here and the workstation is defaulting to that server. What I did was go to "RUN" and type in "\\{IP address of 2003 server". Once I got the network drive to show up, I map the drive and now everytime the workstation boots up, it will see the mapped drive.

By the way, I am going to redo that server and set it up as a DNS type server.
