I have removed a hard drive from my home XP machine. I want to install it in my work computer. The shop has ME on it. When I install it into nachine it does not see new drive in windows. I can see that the bios ha detcted the drive and see it correctly. But in windows under my computer it does not show up. Why is this? How can I correct this? I know that I need reformat to fat32 because now it is ntfs.

You've actually answered your own question. WinMe will not see it while it is NTFS, only after it has been partitioned and formatted to Fat32. Of course, this will remove everything on the drive if you intend to use the existing data on the WinMe machine.

Is it possible to reformat this new drive in the ME machine. If so, how?

It will be easiest to boot from a floppy and use fdisk. Be careful to delete the correct partition (should be listed as non-dos or something similar). But I can't remember if the normal Windows Me startup disk contains 'fdisk'. If not, use a win98 boot disk or one of the ones frequently listed in around this site.

you can run fdisk from within me (start/run fdisk), from there you can delete the non-dos part. and create a new one. (if you create a primary part. and the boot hdd has more than one part. the newly created one will become drive d:, if so not wanted create a extended part. on the new drive)

Thanks guys. There is one thing I guess I forgot to say. I want to clone the old hard drive at work to the new one I brought from the home xp machine. I was thinking that I had to reformat drive. And that was giving me a hard time. Since the ME machine would not see drive I didn't know what to do. I tried what you said. But it still did not see the drive completely. But I spoke with someone else and he told me that the Ghost program would do what I wanted without reformating. I did that and worked just fine. Oh yea something else I learn , you have to remove the drives and reinstall in new setup so as not to rename the new clone. Always having to learn new things.
