We just got two ne machines into the network an the both can see all other computers on the network except for the server. Win98 is the server os and the same for most of the machines. Every setting is the same on each computer and they can all see the server in the Network Nebourhood, yet i can't.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

I've got a similar problem. I have a simple two-computer network at home. The one machine, running Windows 98 can see the other machine, running Windows Me, but the Me computer can't see the 98 one! I can transfer files from the 98 to the Me one, but the Me one says it can't access the other computer.

Strange.

I've used find several times when machines got confused.
What protocols are used? What bindings with protocols?
What adapters? What bindings with adapter?
And if tcp/ip can you ping the missing server?
There can be some timing issues if you use multiple manufacturer's NICs. Can be a real bear to resolve. Certain machines will show up at certain times but be unaccessable, others won't show up, transfers take forever, etc. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.

Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

As long as you can ping each other, but sometimes they do not show up correctly while browsing the network, Install NetBEUI, Heck, its only 2 computers anyways, you may as well.

I think first you need to start a process of elimination.
can you ping the server?,can the server ping the computer? are you going through any hubs or switches. Are you using dynamic or static ip. A shot in the dark my be running winipcfg and then releasing all and then renew all. Give it a try and then if it fails convert your system to UNIX.
