can't scan to CIFS on WIN2003

I'm trying to set up a mfp to scan to CIFS on a Windows 2003 server. I have all the correct ip's and domain names along with username and pw. But no go. I've never worked with a CIFS sharing, but have worked with SMB. From my understanding it shouldn't be that much different. The last thing i have to try is to disable the signature signing in the services, but don't want to do that. any suggestions or thoughts?
