Cant save indesign gradient swatches

...exporting to .ase doesn't support gradient exchange (although you can copy and paste from illustrator used gradient objects to indesign)...
...to keep a source of gradients the method i employ is to create a library of objects (file > new > library), storing gradients in there to transfer as and when in the future...
