I have 2 Macs running CS. The laptop which is running 10.4.7 has suddenly developed this problem. I can create a new document or load an existing doc, work on it etc, but if I add any amount of text and go to save it I get firstly : 'an unknown error has occured', once I click 'OK' then I get 'Can't save preview, but all other information was saved. The file couldn't be found ID= -43'. Needless to say nothing gets saved. I had noticed that in the character palatte, while I could choose a font from the drop down menu, no chosen font name showed up in the box - that was the first indication that something was wrong. I've run fontdoctor on the fonts with no issues being reported. I've tried trashing the prefs, caches, reinstalling CS - nothing helps. I ruled out user issues by launching a second user and trying it in there - same problem. I really need to use CS on the laptop. Any help would be really appreciated.

You might try going to Adobe/support/downloads and select AI-mac. There's an 11.02 update. Don't know if it will help.

You also should trash all your font caches. These can become corrupted and cause all sorts of problems. OSX works off these caches so as not to corrupt the actual font if an app crashes or something. Adobe creates its own caches. In Finder, use find to search for Name Contains "fnt". You'll get various results. Trash all that have ".lst" extension.

OSX makes all sorts of font caches, that should also be cleared periodically. Any that get corrupted can casue headaches. It's easiest to use one of the cache cleaner apps for this. I use a little shareware one called Font Finagler. You can download it from versiontracker.com.

Before reloading a program, make sure to wipe all prefs. That will include User/library/prefernces - Adobe Illustrator setting folder and "com.adobe.illustrator.plist" which is the actual prefs file
