Hi
I'm currently running NT4/Metaframe 1.0. I set up a test W2K/MetaFrame XPS server several months back and it worked a treat. Flushed with success, I decided to start rolling it out across the company. The original server uses the Access file method of managing the farm. I couldn't get it to use SQL2000 to manage the farm. My new disks contain FR2 and setting up a new farm on SQL2000 was a breeze - I assume updated ODBC stuff. So I have two servers in two different farms. I intend to go back and reinstall the original once the new one works.
However, my new server will not run Office 97 macros unless the user is a domain admin. They get a "could not open macro storage" message. Clearly an access rights issue, but I can't seem to pick it up using FILEMON. The original MetaFrame server is fine. To add to the confusion, the macros are stored on a Netware 4.11 volume. I installed the latest Novell Client (4.8.3) as a precaution - the original server has 4.8.1 on it.
I've seen similar posts to this on this forum, but I'm still struggling. Has anyone got an idea where Office is trying to create files. I don't want to start giving read-write access to directories unnecessarily.
On a different note, I considered adding my new server into the farm managed by the original server. I tried and failed. I thought that the server should accept connections on port 2512. When I port-scanned this machine, I found that this port is not open. If I could solve this one, I could use my original Metaframe disk to install on the new server, hopefully avoiding the Office 97 macro problem in the first place. Admittedly, I'd much rather have the farm managed by my SQL 2000 server.
TIA
