I have a Hitachi DeskStar 60 GB that I was changing the cable and as I reached to pull the cable, I accidently bumped the "start" button from behind. I instantly found out that this will start the computer. So, as the cable was coming out, the power was started. Since then, I can't use it at all. Using MBRTool, I found that the boot record and the partition record are both completely overwritten with the hex representation of "A". I tried to rewrite the boot record and the partition record, using MBRTool as well as fdisk /mbr but it won't write. I tried to blank them as well, no success. The Hitachi Drive Fitness Test Tool, however, tells me that it finds nothing wrong.

Am I doomed?

Does that mean you tried to write zeroes to the hard drive?
If not, then try that. Its in the diagnostic software for that hard drive.
