I think i made mistakes, I use regedit delete couple of keys which i don't use anymore, before I made this changes, I use export registry to backup the whole registry, after restart machine, i found computer can't connect internet anymore, the whole local area network under my network places is gone, so i restart regedit, import the saved backup , it gave me error message saying " can't restore from this backup", tried reboot from last known good configuration, don't work, tried "scanreg /restore", doesn't work, and double click the save backup.reg file, same error.

can anyone help, please!!!!!!!!!!

Is the network card still loaded in Device Manager?

I would try to update the network card driver regardless and see if it puts that connection back in there.

Are there any other problems you are experiencing or is it just that?

I am having this same problem, I'm going to try the repair and see what I get. But when I tried to restore the registry I got the same error, and even since the PC is hosed. I can log in locally, no network, but it takes FOREVER (10 minutes from login to desktop) so I believe when I did the attempted restore, something BAD happened.

Is there a way to completely replace the whole registry with a backup? I know there are programs you can do that with (I wish I had used one, in fact we have one). But prior to me making changes in the registry, I thought just doing the export of the complete registry would be something I can use if it went kabluey!

danno - better starting a new thread.

best way to backup/restore registry might be via the actual files (in \winnt\system32\config) - Sam, Security, Software, System from outside the o/s (eg, recovery console). There are other tools - I think bcastner posted a link to one some time ago (may be in xp forum).
