We are using NBU4.5 on a Win2000 server to back up Novell Netware 6 servers. I have been asked to do a restore of over 5,000 files but I am having problems. The original server has been replaced so I am trying to restore to a different location.

I am using the NBU GUI to initiate the restore and choosing a mapped drive, to the new server, as the destination but all I get are loads of errors.

Here is an edited version of the errors:

End of errors

We have done the occasional restore before without any problems so we have no idea what is going on at all.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.

Andrew.

Unfortunately we don't have a support contract with Veritas.:-(

Quick test can you backup from the destination server?. This will prove the setup. If it can then the issue is restore related, if not then the whole set up has a problem. Once you know this then you know where to look for the fix.

We have several servers which are all backing up. The restore I'm trying to do is from an old server which has been replaced. I should be able to restore to a different location shouldn't I?

Yes, you should be able to. It almost looks as if the path you are wanting to restore to either;

1. Is an incorrect path and does not exist

2. You do not have the proper permissions to restore to that drive.

Have you tried just restoring 1 or 2 files from this server to the exact same path?

The path does exist and it should have the correct permissions but just to make sure I did put the Novell client on the backup server and then map a drive to which I tried to restore to.

I logged in as admin so all rights were there. I did try to restore to the local hard drive and it did create all the folders and files but with 0 bytes. This was probably because the files were created on a Netware server I would think.

I have just tried to restore a few files but still no restore. The error log shows the following:

End of error log.

Just to confirm that there were full rights I created a file in the destination folder from the backup server and there were no problems. Got me totally puzzled.[ponder]

We currently backup our netware servers using the target method. We have found that different admin's sometimes change the target name. When the restore trys to use the old target name (default to that job)it can't connect. If you use this method then double check the target name. If not, then good luck.

As a follow up I finally managed to restore the files. The problem was that the destination server was set to the server I originally tried to restore to, once I changed it away it went. Still don't know why I couldn't restore to a different server though.
